CMS Guides

CMS guides for your virtual visit:

Salvatore Buontempo

I am a researcher director at INFN Naples - Italy, with interest in design, construction and operation of innovative particle physics detectors. I started working in high energy physics since 1989 as graduating student in SpaCal R&D project at CERN, then continued in CHORUS experiment at CERN on neutrino oscillation physics as technical coordinator of the electromagnetic calorimeter, then in OPERA experiment at CERN and at LNGS as technical coordinator of the full detector for neutrino oscillation appearance search, and then in CMS in RPC sub detector (technical coordinator, upgrade coordinator and project manager at present) and member of Central Technical coordination group of all CMS detector. I supervised several thesis for graduating, master and PhD students in physics and electronic engineering.

It’s my pleasure (and I consider it also my duty as my salary is coming from public taxes) to introduce to large public what we are doing in high energy physic research, highlighting the importance of basic research activities to train young brains with wide interdisciplinar view, moving from theoretical to experimental activities, crossing between physics, engineering, computer science, project management, electronics, mechanics, innovative materials, working in international and intercultural environment and often producing a large number/high quality technological “side effects” available after few years in our daily life.

I hope you will enjoy the visit and you will consider well invested here the fraction of your tax money we use for our projects !

Davide Valsecchi

I'm a Particle Physics PhD student from Milano and I'm currently spending my PhD at CERN working on the optimization of the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) for Run3 and on CMS data analysis  about Vector Boson Scattering. I'm part of CMS since 2016 and I have been working as a Technical Student at CERN before my PhD.  I really enjoy making people discover details and curiosities about how CMS have been built and works: waiting for your questions!

CMS virtual visits technical experts:

Mohamed Darwish

I am a PhD student at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) and have been a part of the CMS collaboration since 2015. I obtained a M.Sc. from Alexandria University (Egypt), where I worked on preparatory studies to search for the production of new heavy particles using the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). My main doctoral research point is to search for a new particle "heavy neutral Lepton (HNL)" in the data collected by the CMS detector in full Run2 . I have been awarded by CMS Achievement Award in 2018 for supporting CMS data taking in as HLT DOC. I am currently working as a L3 convener in PdmV/PPD group along with part of the CMS Shift Organization team.

Haifa Rejeb Sfar

I am a phD student at the university of Antwerp and university of Tunis El Manar, I joined the CMS Collaboration in 2017 , since then I have been involved in the search of a hypothetical  particle the so called « heavy neutral lepton »  in CMS , DUNE and SoLid experiments in complementary phase spaces beside that I am working as a CMS shifts organiser and shifters trainer and I am also part of the CMS virtual visits team. Finally I am looking forward to start a new CMS tracker activities !

Zoltan and Noemi, physicists, PhD in particle physics

During the last 20 years they have been working for Hardware Muon Barrel Alignment System and Fiber Optical Sensing System at CMS

Their big hobby has been the CMS Virtual visits since the beginning.
