Description

Participants:

Maria Dimou (CERN-Solid collaboration leader) and
Rosy Mondardini (Managing Director Citizen Science Centre Zurich)

Discussion:

ETHZ and UniZH formed the Citizen Science Centre to promote the collaboration of academic scientists and the general public to implement co-created Citizen Science projects. The Centre provides support with digital tools, methodology, processes, and community management.

The meeting was a follow-up of a discussion between Maria Dimou and Ernst Hafen (ex-ETHZ professor) investigating the possibility to use Solid pods for storing sensitive data related to medical research projects in Switzerland.

The use case proposed  by R.Mondardini is a swiss version of the belgian project Isala that processes sensitive data related to women's health.

The proposal is a collaboration with CERN, to host the volunteers' Solid pods and safely store their medical data. This will be possible once a functional Solid UI will be developed.
M.Dimou emphasises the pending UI development and the need for more exhaustive testing and integration of the Community Solid Server (CSS) with the CERN AuTH/AuthZ environment. This requirement is part of this CERN-Solid project proposed by M.Dimou and awaiting for resources. It is also emphasised in the Solid gitter channels (example attached). Security and usability are decisive prerequisites for promoting a Solid service at CERN.

The use case as such is a very useful application, hence a good incentive for CERN to be credited as partner.

The Citizen Science Centre will seek funds from the EU and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
