Most of us agree that poor social interactions online is the main downside of remote teams and online events. This has a substantial negative impact on all of us who work remotely because it lowers our motivation and affects our well-being. How can we make social interactions online better with technology to thrive in a remote-first world? We will discuss a new way of discovering new people, having lively discussions, and having spontaneous experiences online.
Presentation of a case study applying Machine Learning algorithm in stock selection. The study focusses on designing artificial analyst who gives recommendation on which stocks to invest in. The project is a collaboration between CERN PF, UNIL and AGH. The presentation features QF-Lib - a modular Python library developed at CERN that provides an advanced event driven backtester and a set of tools for quantitative finance.
According to a recent research paper from Trinity College Dublin, Android devices send substantial amounts of information to the OS developer and to third-parties (Google, Microsoft, Facebook, etc.) that have pre-installed system apps, even if these apps are never used. /e/ is a privacy-centric Android variant which aims to minimise disclosure of personal data to third parties. At the heart of /e/ is MicroG, a free software re-implementation of the Google Location Services API. Beyond the OS itself, the /e/ foundation provides alternatives to the rest of the Google ecosystem, including an app store, a mapping application and cloud services (e-mail, calendar and contacts, office apps, storage, etc.) This talk will give a whirlwind overview of /e/ and my experiences of installing and using it on my phone.
Cloud-native resources are great because they are so dynamic, but deploying a complex set of microservices and cloud integrations can also take its time.
This is why it's important to have unit tests for our cloud-native stack which can be run quickly on every developer machine.
This talk will present two such tools: container-structure-test and helm-unittest.
