Description

QCD summer school on theory, phenomenology and experiments during the bright Nordic summer nights. This is a 2-week school with first week focusing on theory, the second on phenomenology and experiments.

Proposed topics:

  • Perturbative QCD: hard and high energy processes
  • Small x physics and saturation
  • Algorithms: jets, particle flow, machine learning
  • Event generators
  • Experiments and detectors: LHC, EIC and cosmic rays

We are also planning several hands-on parts with practical exercises using CMS Open Data, MC generators, and Machine Learning. The exact offering will be defined closer to the date.

The list of lectures is the following

  • Machine learning - Thea Aarrestad
  • High energy resummation and diffraction - Francesco Celiberto
  • BFKL and low x physics - Grigorios Chachamis
  • QCD and PDFs - Vadim Guzey
  • Pythia and hands-on - Ikka Helenius
  • Sherpa and Monte Carlo - Alan Price
  • Introduction to QCD - Paul Hoyer
  • High energy soft QCD and diffraction - Valery Khoze
  • Saturation - Tuomas Lappi
  • Hands-on sessions on CMS open data - Kati Lassila-Perini
  • The color glass condensate - Edmond Iancu
  • Hadronic physics and jets - Alba Soto Ontoso (tbc)
  • Forward physics - Paul Newman
  • Forward detectors - Kenneth Österberg
  • CGC: vector mesons and diffraction - Jani Penttala
  • Cosmic rays - Tanguy Pierog
  • PPS and TOTEM results and prospects - Christophe Royon
  • Physics at the EIC - Thomas Ullrich
  • Jet energy scale - Mikko Voutilainen
  • Saturation - Raju Venugopalan

The inclusive price for the school will be 1700 Euros and will include all lectures, coffee breaks,  lodging (in a shared room), all breakfasts, lunches and dinners as well as the tour on Sunday.

We have received more than 40 applications by February 1st and will confirm registrations by 7 February.  As we could secure additional capacity at the school venue, we decided to keep registrations possible until an extended deadline of March 1st (or until full capacity is reached).

Looking forward to the school!

We have been informed that some of the registered participants are receiving spam emails about arranging accommodation. As usual, these are FAKE and should be ignored. Please exercise the usual caution. You are welcome to give a heads-up on Mattermost to warn others or if in doubt and/or to contact us via the organizer's contact email.
