Research has shown that contrary to the common assumption, cognitive intelligence (measured by IQ) is not a reliable predictor of professional and/or socio-economic success. It was thus suggested that another type of intelligence “Emotional Intelligence” could complete the picture and explain our capacity to cope with problems related to social contexts in general and in organizations in particular.
What is “emotional intelligence”? Can it be measured? Is it innate or can it be learnt? Are emotional reactions beneficial or detrimental for our professional functioning?
The answers will address scientific findings regarding the relation between professional creativity, health, decision making and four basic emotional competences:
Our working definition: “Emotions are part of the biological solution to the problem of how to plan and carry out action aimed at satisfying multiple goals in environments which are not perfectly predictable”
Explicit link will be made to CERN’s mission that extends beyond science: aiming to advance global societal challenges - as seen in CERN’s Sparks events on Sustainable Development with Goal 3: Good health and well-being
*The conference will be held in English

(Goal 3: Good health and well-being).
