Description

LHCb UK Seminar: Floating point and all that - a gentle reminder

An overview on floating point numbers and how to avoid numerical instabilities, from Manuel Schiller (Glasgow, UK):

"We all use floating point numbers in our daily work, and think we know how to use them correctly. However, more often than not, I find myself surprised, and have often seen the same surprise in the faces of my colleagues. I will briefly present the basics, and review a couple of pitfalls, and some simple useful methods to avoid getting into numerical trouble."

This seminar will take place both on ZOOM and in-person, in room 40/S2-B01. Refreshments will be provided.
