How to get to Oslo Science Park (Forskningsparken) from the City Centre?

As recommended, most of you will be staying close to the Central Station.  The easiest way to get to the workshop venue is to take the metro from Jernbanetorget to Forskningsparken. Please take the Westbound trains if you are going from the city towards Forskningsparken.

You can either take:

  • Line 4 - 'Vestli via Majorstuen' (direction west)
  • Line 5 - 'Sognsvann' (direction west)
  • Line 5 - 'Ringen via Majorstuen' (direction west)

The metro runs every 5-10 minutes during the day.

For those who are staying close to the Royal Palace, you can also get to Forskningsparken by taking the tram. You should take:

  • Line 17 or 18 towards Rikshopsitalet
  • The trams also run every 5 – 10 minutes during the day.

How to purchase tickets for the metro or the tram?

We recommend that you purchase a 7-day pass during your stay in Oslo.  This would be the cheapest ticket for your stay. You are then free to take all public transport (buses, trams and metros) during your entire stay. You can use https://ruter.no/en/ or download an app called Ruter to plan all journeys around Oslo. On this website, you will also be able to find information on ticket purchase. Please note that it is not possible buy ticket on the metro or the tram. You must have a valid ticket before boarding. The easiest way is to download the ruter app and purchase your tickets on your mobile phone. More information on How to buy a ticket can be found here, https://ruter.no/en/buying-tickets/sales-outlets/

How to get to Oslo City Centre from the main airport, Oslo Gardermoen Airport?

The main airport in Oslo is Oslo Gardermoen Airport. You should take either the Airport Express Train (Flytoget) or a local train run by a company called 'Vy' to the City Centre.

Flytoget Airport Express Train

The Flytoget Airport Express Train departs from Oslo Central Station and Oslo Airport every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes early in the morning and late at night, on weekends and during school holidays. The journey takes about 20 minutes. For the tickets, you can simply swipe your credit card at the entrance gate and select 'Oslo S' on the touch screen, and the ticket is automatically registered on your credit card. You will see large orange side as you come out from the airport arrival for Flytoget (look to the right toward the end of the hall). Alternatively, you can also buy your tickets at the ticket machine or online (https://flytoget.no/billetter/?gclid=CjwKCAjwge2iBhBBEiwAfXDBR4N1YIXx0Gc26WgJAWnmaeIOew82bkNT-pInO1zVibgpf_U_EvU_QRoC23wQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

Local Trains – Vy

Several regular trains operated by the national railway company Vy connect Oslo Central Station and Oslo Airport Gardermoen. On average, there are three departures per hour in both directions. You can buy tickets at the ticket machines at the airport or download the app provided by Vy.

Where to get off coming from the airport?

For both Flytoget and Vy, Jernbanetorget will be the stop for the Central station. For those of you staying close to the Royal Palace, you can get off at National Theatre.  For Vy local trains, please take westbound trains, using towards Drammen.

How to get to Oslo from the TORP Sandefjord airport?

The TORP Sandefjord airport is a secondary option for travel to Oslo (e.g. Ryanair flies to TORP).
( https://torp.no/en/welcome-to-torp-sandefjord-airport/ ). The airport is located on the west side of the Oslo fjord and the travel time to the city centre is longer (roughly 1h and 35min). The most convenient option to travel to Oslo city centre is to take the bus, 'TORP Ekspressen' (https://torp.no/en/to-and-from/bus/). The bus I well synced with arriving and departing flights. Your final destination in Oslo will be 'Oslo bussterminal', which is located in the city centre just behind the main train station.
