About Alberto Degiovanni:

Alberto Degiovanni, PhD, is Deputy Technical Director and Group Leader for Accelerator Physics at AVO-A.D.A.M (Meyrin, Switzerland), where he has worked over the past 7 years in the design, development, testing and overall integration of an accelerator complex for proton and ion therapy. After a Master's in Physics at the University of Milan, he has accumulated more than fourteen years of experience in ion beam therapy and linac science and technology both in industrial and academic environments, obtaining a PhD at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) in collaboration with the TERA Foundation and CERN and a CERN fellowship working on high-frequency RF linac tests for compact accelerators.

About Anna Maria Kolano:

Anna Maria Kolano, PhD, a Medical Physicist at AVO-A.D.A.M (Meyrin, Switzerland), has been working for nearly 5 years on the clinical applications, Treatment Planning and Dosimetry for LIGHT System. She has also been extensively investigating the feasibility of LIGHT linac in novel treatment techniques such as FLASH or mini beam/Grid therapy.  She has completed her Bachelor's studies in Medical Physics followed by a Master’s degree in Particle Physics at the University of Manchester, where she worked on a conceptual design of a 330 MeV medical gantry. She has continued working on accelerator physics topics during her PhD at Paul Scherrer Institut (Switzerland) and CERN Marie-Curie Cofund fellowship obtaining over 10 years of experience in medical applications of accelerators in cancer treatments.

About Stephen Myers:

Stephen Myers, was born in Belfast, N. Ireland, and worked at CERN, Geneva from 1972 until 2015. 

Was responsible for the commissioning and the energy upgrade of the CERN Large Electron Positron Collider (LEP). In 2008, was nominated CERN Director of Accelerators and Technology until January 2014; during this time, directed the repair of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) after the serious accident (2008), and steered the operation of the collider in 2010, 2011, and 2012. On July 4, 2012, the data from the collider allowed the discovery of the “Higgs” boson for which Peter Higgs and Francois Engelert received the Nobel Physics Prize in 2013.

Received several awards; honorary doctorates from the University of Geneva, the Queen’s University of Belfast, and Dublin City University, the IOP Duddell Medal (renamed the Dennis Gabor in 2008), and the 2010 International Particle Accelerator “lifetime” Achievement prize.  In 2012 was joint recipient of the European Physical Society “EPS Edison Volta prize”, and in June 2013 was awarded an OBE (UK) for “services to science”. In October 2013, was jointly awarded the “Prince of Asturias” Prize (Spain).

Am currently the executive chair of a Geneva-based company (ADAM SA) which has developed and tested a linear accelerator for proton therapy of cancer, and executive Director of the parent company Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO).
