Description

We present measurements of the inclusive top quark pair production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV utilizing data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We both final states with one charged lepton, at least two jets and missing transverse energy, or final states with two charged leptons, at least one jet and missing transverse energy. We exploit both the kinematic features of the final states and the identification of jets originating from b-quarks to separate the ttbar production signal from backgrounds and obtain measurements of the cross sections which agree with the predictions of the standard model. We then investigate the ttbar final state and obtain a measurement of the top quark branching fractions into b-quarks. Finally we use the sample of ttbar events to investiage the color representation of the hadronically decaying W boson in the ttbar events, using a new calorimeter-based vectorial variable, the "jet pull", sensitive to the color-flow structure of the final state.
