Description
Abstract: Charged Particle Therapy plays a key role in the treatment of deep-seated tumors, thanks to the advantageous energy deposition culminating in the Bragg peak. However, the biological damage due to beam-induced tissue fragmentation is still an open issue: effects linked to target fragmentation are challenging to evaluate and are often neglected in clinical practice. The FOOT experiment has been designed to measure the cross sections of nuclear fragmentation of both projectile and target. This talk will discuss the goals and current status of the experiment, as well as the perspective of future innovative direct measurements.
