The latest generation of synchrotron facilities accelerate photons with high brilliance of special characteristics. They host labs, known as beamlines that in broad terms provide various techniques including imaging and spectroscopy. This talk introduces the Italian Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste [www.elettra.eu] with focus on the applications of the TwinMic X-ray Imaging and Spectromicroscopy beamline [https://www.elettra.eu/elettra-beamlines/twinmic.html]. In specific, low energy X-ray Fluorescence, scanning transmission microscopy and ptychography will be discussed. Recent results of those techniques include basic and applied research in nanotechnology, energy, medicine, and cultural heritage fields. Challenges, upgrades and future perspectives will be discussed including potential joint research with the NCSR Demokritos.
