Description

We discuss recent progress in understanding AdS black holes through the duality with N=4 super-Yang-Mills. I will explain how black holes can be distinguished from gravitons, then present our construction of both supersymmetric and near-supersymmetric black hole states. We also address the question of whether higher-supersymmetric AdS black holes exist.
