Excursion

For an excursion, we will visit Gongsangseong Fortress and Tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju city.

Gongju City

Gongju (Korean: 공주; Korean pronunciation: [koŋ.dzu]) is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea.

Gongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538.

In 538, King Seong moved the capital to Sabi (in modern-day Buyeo County). However, Gongju remained an important center until the kingdom's fall in 660.

Gongsanseong Fortress

Gongsanseong Fortress

Gongsanseong Fortress is a castle in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea.

This was a royal palace of the Baekje Kingdom, and Geumseoro (West Gate) is arguably the finest fortress wall that can be seen in Korea. When you walk along the fortress, you will be able to take in a full view of the city of Gongju.

Tomb of King Muryeong and Royal Tombs, Gongju

Ancient Tombs in Songsan-ri

The Tomb of King Muryeong, also known as Songsan-ri Tomb No. 7 (공주 송산리 7호분), is the ancient tumulus of King Muryeong, who ruled the Baekje from 501 to 523, and his queen.

This is the site of the royal tomb of the 25th king of Baekje discovered in Songsan-ri. The beautiful trail along the hills leads to a museum.
