Description

The Collaborative Research Information Sharing Platform (CRISP) provides an integrated system for managing scientific collaboration workflows, documentation, and institutional knowledge for the future Electron Ion Collider (EIC). CRISP is designed to address practical challenges in coordinating activities across a multi-thousand-user community distributed international collaboration, using a modular architecture that combines specialized open-source components into a unified platform.

The system architecture consists of four main components: InvenioRDM for document storage, versioning, and digital preservation; PhoneBook, a digital directory managing institutions, members, groups, permissions, and tasks; COmanage for federated identity and authentication; and a workflow orchestration system for document approval processes and status tracking. These components are connected through consistent access control propagation and seamless integration with existing collaboration tools already in use, such as Indico, mailing lists, and Discourse.

CRISP implements a community-based access model where group membership managed in PhoneBook automatically propagates to InvenioRDM communities, enabling fine-grained permission control while lowering administrative workload. The deployment infrastructure aligns with modern DevOps practices with separate development, integration, and production environments that are actively maintained using Git-based version control. The platform emphasizes automation throughout: membership changes trigger automatic permission updates across all services, document submissions initiate automated approval workflows with notifications, and completed documents receive automated DOI assignment and archival processing, significantly reducing administrative overhead while ensuring compliance with institutional requirements.
