Description

The new measurements of the tensor analyzing power T20 for the incoherent reaction γd→ppπ- above the first resonance region. In contrast to the previous measurements, a photon tagging system was used which enabled to measure the photon energy in the range of (400 – 700) MeV with an accuracy of 6 MeV. The experimental data are compared with those obtained with two statistical simulations. The first simulation is performed within the plane-wave approximation, while the second one also includes the FSI effects.

The comparison between the experimental and simulated data shows that the main features of the reaction seem to be well accounted for by the quasi-free pion photoproduction followed by the FSI effects. Nevertheless, satisfactory description of the data is not yet achieved. Further improvements in the theoretical treatment are needed including, perhaps, two-body production mechanisms in order to further compensate the mismatch between the large proton momenta, produced in our experiment and a low momentum readily available in the deuteron.
