The 2025 SSRMP annual meeting will take place in Geneva, where the society was founded in 1964 with Professor Dr. Hedi Fritz-Niggli as its first president. At that time, the aims of the society were set down to gain recognition and advance knowledge in the field of radiation biology, as well as to educate medical doctors and scientists in the fundamentals of radiation physics and radiation protection. Nowadays, the aims of the SSRMP have evolved with the society needs and are focused on patient care by supporting clinical practice, promoting research and teaching in the fields of radiobiology, medical physics and radiation protection. The SSRMP brings together and represents individuals who are active in these areas and who are interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific development of these disciplines. This is the reason why this year’s annual meeting we will bring together clinics and research by organizing the meeting together with CERN.
We are looking forward to the contributions from these two communities and hope that they will be as numerous and diverse as they have always been.
We’re thrilled to be meeting you in Geneva!
ATTENTION: Please note that, due to restricted access to CERN premises, last-minute on-site registrations will not be possible.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee

CERN’s Federated Learning Platform and AI applications for Medical Images Analysis 15mCAFEIN is a software technology based on Federated Learning developed at CERN. Originally designed for accelerators applications and later expanded to address new domains: most notably medical research. Hosted and maintained at CERN, CAFEIN provides a comprehensive federated platform that integrates specialized software components, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and CERN’s infrastructure to support large-scale scientific collaboration.
As artificial intelligence (AI) scales rapidly, data availability and accessibility have become critical bottlenecks. In the medical domain, these challenges are compounded by the need to safeguard confidentiality and privacy. What if we could train powerful AI models to advance healthcare without ever compromising sensitive data? CAFEIN enables exactly this: a federation of hospitals can collaborate on building stronger models without exposing their datasets or even revealing their participation. Staying true to CERN’s mission of “science for peace,” CAFEIN extends this spirit to secure, privacy-preserving collaboration across institutions. In this presentation, we will introduce the technology, highlight its architecture, and showcase current applications in medical imaging, along with the results achieved through this innovative approach, including promising outcomes using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs).Speaker: Matilde Carvalho Costa (CERN)

Superferric magnets for medical applications developed at CERN 15mCERN’s accelerator and magnet expertise is being applied to develop new technologies for particle therapy. Two ongoing projects show this knowledge transfer: the Next Ion Medical Machine Study (NIMMS), which investigates the design of a centre for high-intensity helium-ion radiotherapy, and GaToroid, a novel toroidal gantry concept that delivers near-instantaneous, multi-directional irradiation without moving the patient or the machine. In both projects, superferric magnets (a combination of iron yoke and superconducting coils) are explored as an energy-efficient solution for steering and focusing particle beams. This presentation will give an overview of the two projects, discuss engineering challenges, and highlight the potential of superferric magnet technology for the next-generation particle therapy systems.
