Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame is excited to host a three-day workshop from April 24–26, 2025 (Thursday–Saturday), bringing together leading cosmologists and particle physicists to explore compelling particle physics scenarios that can be tested with current and future cosmological data. The workshop builds on the success of the Cosmo Probe of New Physics workshop held in 2022.

Workshop venue:

4/24 (Thu): Reading Room, Jordan Hall of Science [link]

4/25-26 (Fri, Sat): Room 210, Duncan Student Center [link]

The event includes a formal workshop and two public science events:

  • An invitation-only workshop exploring the intersection of particle physics and cosmology, focusing on five main topics:

           Cosmic tensions

           Dark sectors and neutrinos

Particle physics targets for future experiments

Effective Field Theory of Large Scale Structure

           Non-Gaussian signals and cosmological features

  • The Universe and Us: A science outreach event with Prof. Dan Hooper, Director of the Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Taking place on 4/24 (Thursday) after dinner at Merriman's Playhouse, a jazz venue in Downtown South Bend.

  • Cosmology and Unification: A public lecture by Prof. Raman Sundrum, Director of the Maryland Center for Fundamental Physics at the University of Maryland. Taking place on 4/25 (Friday) evening at the St. Joseph Country Public Library in Downtown South Bend, with a reception beforehand.
