Infrastructure B.180 Meeting #5

Europe/Zurich
- First winding mock-up
- All 3D-printed parts for the first winding mock-up are available
- N. Lusa machined a short winding mandrel, in such a way that the spool has enough space to turn over the mandrel
- Everything is ready to start the tests
- Seb will prepare the winding machine (including spool). First winding tests on Wednesday 09/04/2025
- Further winding tests:
- BOND coil-end design accounts for only 20 mm distance in between the exit of the hard-way and the beginning of the easy-way bend.
- In general, we try to ensure a distance of half the twist-pitch to improve cable stability
- We propose to perform two winding tests with the geometry of the layer jump with 20 mm and 50 mm. Based on the results we will choose our final flared-end geometry.
- BOND coil-end design accounts for only 20 mm distance in between the exit of the hard-way and the beginning of the easy-way bend.
- Infrastructure and operation:
- Jerome got the green light to go ahead with the offer from Siemens for the upgrade of the winding machine
- He will send the offer. He will try to minimize the impact on the availability of the winding machine
- The idea is to intervene and finish the work on the machine by the end of 2025
- Jerome will also take a look on the possibility of using high-temperature capacitive sensors (or even LVDTs) in our ovens. He will check how to bring wires out (feedthroughs), the type of wires etc
- He will ask for an offer for the capactivie sensors, in order to buy at least one and start trying.
