This meeting is a follow-up on one meeting held long time ago with Michael Guinchard about BOND's mechanical instrumentation (this past meeting was focused on the magnet instrumentation, both mechanical and magnetic measurements).

Summary:

• Discussion in front of the magnet cross section about the possibilities for mechanical instrumentation
  • The proposal from EN-MME is to use only FBG, getting rid of any magnetic field compensation issues.
• Places for placing mechanical instrumentation after discussion:
  • Outer diameter of Al-shell
  • Inner diameter of Ti-pole (in the aperture)
  • Top surface of the Ti-pole (opposite to the magnet aperture)
  • Request to instrument the bullet pushers in the end support system
• This requires a detailed study. Mostly on the feasibility of the instrumentation layout in the magnet aperture.
  • Is there enough space in the 50 mm bore for the FBG and a magnetic measurement system (with pion spacers, etc)?

• In parallel, other ideas were discussed to try to better understand the force repartition in the structure. These are just ideas (brainstorming) if one day one considers a B&K mock-up of this type:
  • Could we measure something in the pads? To be sure how much force goes into the coil. It is not trivial to do and requires grooves on a critical component.
  • With the same logic, could one imagine to include sort of a force measurement (load cells) in between the keys and the yoke?
