Notes 13-05-2025: ATLAS JFC+JFSU machining - visit b. 191

The goal of the meeting was to visit the site and to discuss to arrange space and logistics in b.191. for the ATLAS machining worksite.

1) Based on the study realized by Michel and Jamie Pinnell we discussed the preliminary ATLAS space occupation proposal for the building:
The JFSU and JFC3 machining zone is proposed to be installed in the South-West corner of the building close to the access door.
We checked if the required services for the Kuka robot operation are available:

• 380V power supply is available next to the entrance (ok)
• Compressed air is available on the opposite side of the hall (manageable - hose line to be pulled cross the hall, protected and evtl to be disconnected for allowing heavy handling manoeuvres)

2) We discussed the logistics aspect of the activity:

• • For space reason we agreed that only one unit is in b.191 at a time.
  • As JFSUs are less activated we agreed to start machining both JFSUs, then JFC3s.
  • JFSUs could be made available as from 10^th of July 2026.
  • End of July 2026 was considered as realistic to transport the 1^st JFSU from SX1 to b.191
  • Rotation of each unit by 90° is necessary to have favourable machining positions (refer to BE-CEM presentation)

Rotation procedure need to be further explored by transport colleagues (Maria will speak with colleagues)

3) Worksite preparation:

• • Sergio and Oliver proposed to start installing the worksite as from January 2026.
  • Programming development and machining tests with the Kuka robot will start in 2^nd half of 2025.

4) Next steps:

• • Discussions with HSE-RP will be needed (Oliver will contact Jean-François Gruber and Angelito), concerning:

                                                              i.      SAS requirements (controlled area installation, under pressure operation, storage space for dose readers, material, waste)

                                                             ii.      SAS cleaning and inspection

                                                           iii.      Radioactive waste logistics
