Electroweak baryogenesis links the origin of the Universe’s
matter–antimatter asymmetry to physics at the electroweak scale. These
lectures review the observational evidence for a cosmic baryon
asymmetry, present Sakharov’s three conditions for baryogenesis, and
discuss how and why the Standard Model falls short. Emphasis will be
placed on sphaleron-mediated baryon number violation, a too small CKM
CP violation, and the need for a strong first-order electroweak phase
transition. About the latter point, we will go through the main
theoretical tools to grasp the phase diagram of the Standard Model.
