AWAKE Run 2c – Spectrometer Design Chamber
Participants: Maria-Carmen, Fern, Collette, Nicolas, David, Marlene
Two window options are planned:
Reuse an existing ~2 mm thick aluminum window (used in Run 1).
Design a second window for the high-energy side featuring a transparent ~2-inch diameter window (for OSR) surrounded by steel or another robust material.
The window should be positioned outside the magnet yoke, especially if it needs to be replaceable.
Final angle does not need to be fixed immediately unless it’s perpendicular, which could lead to integration issues on the high-energy side.
Initial decision: Use 14 degrees for the first version.
Action: Joe and David to finalize the optimal angle, considering screen imaging constraints (e.g. 0° is not ideal for installing cameras near the beamline).
Evaluate where reinforcement ribs are needed and whether they can be placed outside the yoke.
A mechanical simulation is necessary to confirm the structural integrity.
Current upstream diameter is 72 mm; inside chamber diameter is 64 mm.
Action: Marlene to assess whether a wider downstream diameter is feasible and report back to Nicolas.
Nicolas will circulate the first draft of the chamber design by early August.
