[1] Transportation from Airport(s) to Tsukuba Center:

There are two international airports close to Tsukuba city center, one is "Narita" airport, and other one is "Haneda" airport. For both cases, the most convent way to go to Tsukuba center is the bus, a direct connection from the airport to Tsukuba center. The bus ticket can be purchased at the bus counter at the airport.

 1-1) Narita airport (NRT):

    - 2,400 yen, about 1 hour from airport to Tsukuba center.

 1-2) Haneda airport (HND):

    - 1,900 yen, about 2 hours from airport to Tsukuba center.

    For Haneda airpot case, you might choose the way by train, because the bus does not depart often. In that case, the following guide would be useful.

    https://www.tsukuba.ac.jp/en/about/campus-access/tsukuba-access/index.html

    There are several ways to go to Tsukuba center from Haneda airport. A typical way to reach Tsukuba center by trains is as follows. We recommend to use "Suica" or "Pasmo" card as shown in [2].

  • Haneda airport (international terminal) ->
  • Take "Tokyo Monorail" ->
  • Get off at the terminal "Hamamatsucho" Station ->
  • Transfer to "JR Yamanote line (green one)" or "JR Keihin-tohoku line (blue one)" at "Hamamatsucho" ->
  • Get off at "Akihabara" Station ->
  • Transfer to "TX (Tsukuba Express) at Akihabara->
  • Get off at "Tsukuba" station (terminal of TX line).

    * TX Tsukuba station is the "Tsukuba center".

[2] Suica or Pasmo card:

We would strongly recommend to buy " Suica" or "Pasmo" IC card, for the public transportation. It is quite useful, especially when you use the bus for the transportation between Tsukuba center and Tsukuba campus. At Narita airpot, you can but it at JR station in the Narita airport. At Haneda airport, you can buy it at the Haneda airport station for "Tokyo Monorail". This card is refundable.

You can use this card also for the bus at Tsukuba, e.g. Tsukuba Center (Tsukuba St.) to Tsukuba Campus (see [3]).
