Getting to Kraków

Kraków is well-connected internationally, with two nearby international airports and international rail connections.

By plane

Kraków Airport (KRK) is around 12km west of the city centre, connected to the centre by regular train (line SKA1, 20 PLN) and bus services (route 300, 6 PLN). There are also airport taxis (~80 PLN) and ride-hailing services (~50 PLN).

The neighbouring city of Katowice is also served by Katowice Airport (KTW). Katowice is around 80km from Kraków.

By train

International and national rail services serve the main station, Kraków Główny, just north-east of the city centre. The conference venue is a level 30-minute walk from the main station, or 20 minutes by public transport (bus/tram from Teatr Słowackiego to Teatr Bagatela).

Getting around Kraków

Central Kraków, including the historic Old Town and the adjacent Kazimierz district, is largely pedestrianised and pleasantly walkable.  For longer journeys, Kraków is well-served by its extensive tram and bus network.

Tickets can be purchased on paper from machines at major stops, or digitally using the Jakdojade app (available on both iOS and Android). Trips of up to 20 minutes cost 4 PLN; up to 60 minutes, 6 PLN. Longer-duration tickets of 1/2/3/7 days are also available; all of central Kraków is in ticketing zone 1 (the airport is in zone 2).

Tickets must be 'validated' on board after purchase. To validate a paper ticket, feed it (in the direction shown on the ticket) into the mouth of the yellow box on board; it will stamp it with the date and time, and line number. To validate a digital ticket, enter the alphanumerical vehicle code (eg AZ123) displayed on board into the relevant field at the time of purchase.

Recently, a new system (available on many but not all trams/buses) allows credit card use directly. For this, it is possible to buy a ticket at a somewhat smaller black-yellow box; afterwards, the credit card can be used as a ticket during controls. The validity of a (timed) ticket can be checked on the same boxes using the same credit card.
