Physics

On HRS, neutron-deficient Cd isotopes were delivered to the MIRACLS setup to perform laser spectroscopy in an MR-ToF device around the doubly-magic ¹⁰⁰Sn region. The setup is very complex, combining two experimental techniques into one in order to reach very exotic nuclei, the result of more than a decade of dedicated development. After their very first successful experiment last year, the current campaign on Cd isotopes marks only the second, and at the same time the final, opportunity to exploit the setup before it is dismantled in the autumn to include it in the PUMA preparation beam line. In this context, the availability of 2.5 μA was absolutely crucial: the additional yield provided just enough statistics within the short time window during which all parts of this very complex setup were optimised at exactly the right moment, making the measurement of ⁹⁸Cd feasible. The team is very grateful for this support during this last chance.
