Dear Reviewer, many thanks for the fast review. We have treated your two comments in the updated version of the proceeding: - The typical antenna spacing is about 200 m, which we now mention at the beginning of section 2. - The background level at Tunka has never been measured in a way which would be directly comparable to measurements at other sites (e.g., LOPES). Of course, we plan such measurements on a longer time scale, but the details are tricky: The background level depends not only on the time of the day and the season when it was measured, but also on the used hardware, e.g., the directional properties of the antenna. What we can firmly say at the moment, is only that the rate of background pulses is relatively low, since this statement requires no absolute calibration. Thus, the statement on the expected Xmax precision was probably too strong given the experimentally confirmed facts. Consequently, we weakened the statement a little bit. Last but not least, we have corrected the layout and the references as requested. Best regards, Frank Schröder (corresponding author)
