Venue and Travel Information

Venue

The Workshop takes place at "Pavilhão de Civil",   Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), in Lisbon.  IST is often simply called Técnico.

All meeting rooms are in the Building called "Pavilhão de Civil", number 2 in the map in  floor -1 (one floor below the entrance floor). The entrance floor is floor 0 (ground floor).  ISTcampusMap

IST has four entrance gates. The front one is in Avenida Manuel da Maia. It has a big flight of stairs and it faces a green park going downhill. There are also stairs in the entrance of Rua Alves Redol. This is the closest entrance to the meeting rooms.

The two other entrances allow for cars to enter. As a result they have guards. Pedestrians may enter freely, there is no need to show any identification.

Airport

The Aeroporto de Lisboa (Humberto Delgado Airport) is an international airport located in the city of Lisbon.

  • The METRO connects the airport directly to the city centre. From the airport, Técnico can be easily reached by taking the Red line to Saldanha station. We recommend this option instead of Alameda, as it avoids the steep uphill walk between Alameda station and Técnico. Alternatively, you can take a taxi/Uber/Bolt for less than 10€.

Metro

IST is accessible from the airport via the Metro system (10 subway stops, red line).

  • Departure station: Aeroporto
  • Arrival station: Saldanha.
  • Network diagram here.
  • 1 Metro ticket (valid during 60 minutes following the first validation): 1,90 € (+ one-time 0,50€ for the transport card). Daily tickets and longer periods are also available.
  • The closest METRO stations to IST are Alameda (Green and Red lines), on the Eastern side, and Saldanha (Yellow and Red lines), on the western side.

From Gare do Oriente to Técnico

If you travel by train, the best option is to exit in Gare do Oriente. From there, Técnico can be easily reached by taking the red line to Saldanha station.

Car

Taxis and several car sharing services are available.

If you're taking a taxi, ensure that the taxi meter is turned on at the start of the journey. The average metered rate to the city is about €10.00 (plus luggage at €1.60).  More information here.

Ride-hailing apps Uber and Bolt are also popular in Lisbon.
