Subject: Andrea Sciaba's talk on Support tools Notes: Maria Dimou Date: Mon, 12 Dec 2011 15:14:29 +0100 Support tools - ========= Ticketing systems - Slide 3 Tiziana (TF): 25% funding by EGI. 50% by german EGI. After EGI ends, the EU money must be given by someone else. TF: rt is the system used by 4-5 NGIs. We all agreed reducing the local ticketing systems is not a good idea but their integration with GGUS should definitely be improved. Accounting tools - Slide 5 TF: Required improvements are in EGI's plans. CERN accounting system is under development for local jobs'accounting to be fed in the central accounting DB. It will be ready next April. (Manuel Guijarro PES) AleDiGi reports that experiments sometimes attribute higher HS06 value to what they actually have. BDII sanity checks lead to a 10% of inaccurate accounting data. To be continued offlikne Admin tools - Slide 7 TF: GOCDB offers the functionality to tag a new type of service 'centralised solution' . ONe needs to open a rt requirement ticket and GOCDB developers will integrate the new service in a couple of days. This functionality could be used to reflect services offered to a VO by the site in GOCDB (Simone). Ops portal should not send >1 times downtime notifications to the same individual (Alessandra). This is difficult to do if the same person has many functions and is recorded via an e-group. (MariaD) Also, more serious, cases when downtime was not broadcasted at all, they were really problematic. (MariaD) OIM-GOCDB integration and up-to-dateness is important. Batch systems - Slide 9 Gonzalo + TF said that Condor is used by 1% of the EGI user community. Ian Fisk, surprised by the 1% mentioned that WLCG, especially american sites, are 40% of the resources and they are exclusively Condor. (MariaD) GGUS-based user support for the gLite batch utils for systems LSF, Torque, SGE, Condor was put in operation in October 2010 via GGUS dev. items: https://savannah.cern.ch/support/?116736 https://savannah.cern.ch/support/?116710 https://savannah.cern.ch/support/?116711 https://savannah.cern.ch/support/?116712 Talking with the experts per system (NIKHEF, CERN, PIC,LIP) we realised that none of the projects (EGEE, then EGI or WLCG) funded this support activity in anyway so it has to happen on a best-effort basis. Xavier and Gonzalo reported scalability problems for future systems' evaluation and support. How do we decide what batch systems to support for the WLCG community and with which funding, especially in the post-gLite era? (MariaD) TF suggested we launch a WLCG survey to measure the importance of each batch system. Point agreed by All: Funding for the future of support cannot be discussed in the TEG but it IS a point to discuss at the next round. Underlying services - Slide 10 TF: Improvement of the Information System is part of the EMI roadmap. For the rest, everyone recognised the need to improve security and up-to-dateness of the information available.
