Description
Over the past several years, a collection of techniques have enabled the efficient computation of new soft and beam functions at N$^2$LO. In this talk, I show how we have used some of those techniques to compute new soft functions at N$^2$LO, firstly for generalised event shapes at $e^+ e^-$ colliders, and secondly for the measurement of boson transverse momentum along with a rapidity-dependent jet veto at $pp$ colliders. Our focus is to make the calculation as simple as possible, and to make full use of existing results, in order to pave the way for higher-order calculations, and more differential observables.
