DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Giulia Bini (CERN\, Moderator)\, Céline Manz\, Juan
Sorrentino\n\nThe event is aimed at the CERN community and CERN Alumni an
d Retirees\, therefore physical attendance will require having a valid CER
N access card. \n\nArts at CERN Talk series - Meet the artists\n\nArts a
t CERN is delighted to invite you to the inaugural event of its new Talk S
eries\, Meet the Artists\, organised in collaboration with the CERN Librar
y.\nThis first event welcomes artists Céline Manz and Juan Sorrentino\, r
ecipients of the Arts at CERN Connect Argentina residency. The conversatio
n will focus on their current projects and invites the CERN community to e
xplore\, question\, and critically engage with their work – establishing
fertile ground for dialogue and reflections at the crossroads of artistic
  research and scientific enquiry.\nCéline Manz\, a research-based multidi
sciplinary artist from Basel\, works across theory\, archives\, and experi
mental methodologies. Her project\, Echoes from the Void\, connects scient
ific research on cosmic rays with a critical historiography of knowledge p
olitics in physics. Centring on the contributions of scientists Marietta B
lau and Bibha Chowdhuri\, the project interweaves field recordings\, early
photographic records\, and physics data sonification to bridge historical
and contemporary scientific inquiry through sonic and somatic experience.
\nBased in Buenos Aires\, Juan Sorrentino is a sound artist and experiment
al musician whose practice spans sonic sculptures and immersive installati
ons. His project\, Cherenkov Tides – ψ(r\,t)\, reinterprets cosmic and
subatomic phenomena through sound\, vibration\, and light. In collaboratio
n with particle physicists and astrophysicists\, he explores new materiali
sations of sound and aims at developing sonification algorithms to create
perceptual environments that render the invisible matter of the universe e
xperientially tangible.\nFollowing three weeks of research at the Pierre A
uger Observatory\, and fresh from their arrival at CERN\, the artists will
share insights from their residency in Argentina and open the discussion
to the CERN community.\nConnect Argentina is a collaboration between CERN
and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia\, offering a dual residency betwee
n the Pierre Auger Observatory and CERN. The programme is organised in par
tnership with Presente Continuo - Arts & Science Program by Fundación Bun
ge y Born and Fundación Williams.\nThe discussion will be moderated by Gi
ulia Bini\, Head of Arts at CERN.\nWe look forward to welcoming you to thi
s engaging exchange! A light apéro will be offered at the end of the talk
