DESCRIPTION:"Analog Optical Computing at Microsoft Research UK: Improving
Efficiency in the AI Era" \nby James CLEGG  \n(Principal Optical Scientis
 t at Microsoft Research Lab – Cambridge\, UK)\nA B S T R A C T: The expo
nential growth of artificial intelligence workloads has intensified the de
mand for energy-efficient and high-speed computing solutions. Analog optic
al computing offers a promising alternative to conventional digital archit
ectures by leveraging the inherent parallelism and speed of light for matr
ix operations and signal processing. In this work\, we present recent adva
nces at Microsoft Research UK in analog optical computing\, focusing on sy
stem architectures\, precision control\, and integration with existing AI
frameworks. Our results demonstrate significant improvements in computatio
nal efficiency and power reduction for large-scale neural network inferenc
e\, highlighting the potential of optical accelerators to complement digit
al processors in the AI era.\n \n\n\nhttps://indico.cern.ch/event/1667483
