DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Ana-Claudia Sima (Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics)
\n\nThis Talk will take place in English exclusively on Zoom. Registration
is not required to attend.\nAbstract:\nGenerative AI and in particular La
rge Language Models have significantly impacted all areas of science\, esp
ecially data-intensive disciplines\, such as bioinformatics. While Large L
anguage Models bring new opportunities for democratizing access to data an
d knowledge\, they are imperfect tools\, due to hallucinations\, knowledge
cut-off times and training costs. Therefore\, today more than ever\, the
rich ecosystem of structured data collected and curated over time in scien
tific repositories remains the trusted foundation for knowledge access\, t
o which novel Generative AI services can bring significant added value as
natural language interfaces.\nIn this talk\, I will highlight some of the
opportunities of Generative AI for knowledge discovery and exploration\, t
hrough the examples of large-scale initiatives such as the European Open S
cience Cloud (EOSC) Data Commons project\, which aims to build a platform
for data and tools discovery and matching across the European research lan
dscape.\nSpeaker:\nDr. Ana Claudia Sima co-leads the Knowledge Representat
ion Unit at the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics\, specialized in Dat
a and Knowledge Management through knowledge graphs\, ontologies and seman
tic search platforms. With a background in Computer Science and an interdi
sciplinary PhD in Search over Bioinformatics Databases\, she is currently
involved in several European projects with the mission of democratizing ac
cess to scientific data\, for example through contributions in the Europea
n Open Science Cloud (EOSC) FIDELIS\, EDEN and Data Commons projects.\nThe
Zentralbibliothek Zurich\, the CERN Scientific Information Service\, and
AILIS (Association of International Librarians and Information Specialists
\, Geneva) jointly organize the Library Science Talks. A programme of talk
s for 2025 can be found on the AILIS website. \n\nhttps://indico.cern.ch/
