DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe documentary "Invisible Energy" follows t
he 1984 run of the UA1 experiment at the CERN proton-antiproton collider.
The 1983 discovery of the W and Z° particles led to the Physics Nobel pri
ze for Simon van der Meer and Carlo Rubbia\, the spokesperson of the UA1 e
xperiment. The film\, produced as part of a doctorate in visual anthropolo
gy\, enters the daily life at the UA1 experiment of physicists\, engineers
and technicians. It includes interviews with Carlo Rubbia and with theori
sts. It raises pertinent questions about the future of particle physics th
at are still of great importance today. Film producer: Lynn Silverman Gai
llard2025 remastering: Lynn Silverman Gaillard\, Gijs de Rijk and Lucie Li
nssen\n\n\n \n\n\nThe 50-minute film will be preceded by a short introduc
tion by Lynn and Lucie. =====\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe film is spoken in Englis
h and French\, with French and English subtitles.\n\n\nThe film is of part
icular interest to the broad span of professionals and students involved i
n particle physics. The term "visual anthropology" primarily refers to the
method in which the filmmaker fully integrates into the group and observe
s while everyone goes about their own work. The interviews complement the
"visual anthropology” aspect \; they prove to be very focused and histor
 ically relevant.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://indico.cern.ch/event/16926
