DESCRIPTION:\nWe are announcing the first guided visit for the openlab sum
mer students 2026!\nThe visit will take place on Friday\, 10 July\, from 1
6:30 to 17:40\, and will give you the opportunity to explore two of CERN
’s iconic facilities:\nThe Synchrocyclotron (SC) and ATLAS Visitor Centr
e (AVC). \nStudents will be divided into two groups and follow a parallel
schedule to visit both locations. You will meet your guides at the design
ated meeting points and walk together to the exhibitions.\nTo attend the v
isit\, please fill out the registration form and select your preferred gro
up. Registration is mandatory for participation.\nMeeting point locations:

 point - building 300 - map \n\n \n\n\n\n\nGroup A\nGroup B\n\n\n\nATLAS
  from 16:30 to 17:00\n\n\nSC from 16:30 to 17:00\n\n\n\nSC from 17:10 to 1
 7:40\n\nATLAS from 17:10 to 17:40\n\n\n\n\nATLAS Visitor Center\nThe ATLAS
Visitor Center has a permanent exhibit with interactive screens outside t
he Control Room and a 3D movie which explains how the detector works and w
hy the collaboration pursues its quest for fundamental knowledge. CERN als
o has two permanent exhibitions Universe of Particles and Microcosm that p
rovide unique experiences in understanding the secrets of matter and explo
ring the mysteries in our universe.\nSC\nThe 600-MeV Synchrocyclotron (SC)
\, which came into operation in 1957\, was CERN’s first accelerator. It
provided beams for CERN’s first experiments in particle and nuclear phys
ics. At that time\, theory predicted that a short-lived particle called th
e “pion” should decay into an electron and a neutrino\, so scientists
designed an SC experiment to stop pions and study their decays. In 1958\,
only a few hours after the start of the experiment\, the first images sho
wed clear evidence of this rare decay. This discovery spread CERN’s name
around the world.  \n \nNote: this is not an underground visit\nThis vi
sit is exclusively organized for openlab summer students\, other participa
nts will not be accepted!\nPlease register and choose your group before Ju
 ly 9th midnight!\n\nhttps://indico.cern.ch/event/1698413/
