ASFAP Recommendations—implementation plan
Summary of the meeting:
Many chapters in the ASFAP report have budgets and timelines for implementing the chapter recommendations. There are many similar recommendations in various chapters about physics education, training and research, and the implementations of these recommendations are reflected in the stated budgets. However, it is unlikely that funding agencies will commit to funding all projects to the full extend of their budget requests, and no particular project can draw consensus as the primary project to be funded. To reduce budget costs, we propose to:
- Identify common physics educational goals across all projects.
- Identify / define a common research infrastructure for a large number of projects, serving not only research but as well the identified educational goals.
- Then as additions, identify the specifics for different projects.
- Write a proposal.
Folks in the Compact Light Source, Detectors & Instrumentation, and Young Physicists Forum, have started a discussion in the direction outlined above. We will continue these discussions in future meetings and would like to hear other people's ideas and suggestions about how to integrate as much as possible many projects in items 1) and 2) above, using the ASFAP report as the primary source and thrust; people are free to consider their own ideas and write their own proposals from different sources if they wish.
