DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the Snakemake Workshop and Hackatho
 n 2027\, to be held 8-12 March\, 2027 at the Paul Scherrer Institute\, Swi
tzerland. This event will bring together passionate developers and data sc
ientists to collaborate on and innovate with the Snakemake workflow manage
ment system. We plan to fix issues\, improve usability\, implement new fea
tures and plugins\, and advance Snakemake’s ecosystem of tool wrappers a
nd workflows\, across all scientific domains.\nRegistrations are accepted
 now\, see below.\nOrganizers\n\nJohannes Köster (University of Duisburg-E
ssen\, Snakemake lead developer)\nLukas Heinrich (TU Munich)\nChristian Me
esters (University of Frankfurt Snakemake core developer)\nClemens Lange (
Paul Scherrer Institute\, Host)\nAliya Nigamova (Paul Scherrer Institute\,
Host)\nMatthew Feickert (University of Wisconsin-Madison)\nDavid Lähnema
nn (University of Duisburg-Essen\, Snakemake core developer)\n\nAbout Snak
emake\nThe Snakemake workflow management system is a powerful tool designe
d for creating reproducible and scalable data analyses. Utilizing a human-
readable\, Python-based language\, Snakemake makes it easy to create new a
nd update existing analysis workflows. With its careful design choices—l
ike the plugin system for extending functionality—it can seamlessly scal
 e workflow deployment from a laptop to servers\, clusters\, grids\, and cl
oud environments\; all without modifying the workflow definitions\, and wh
ile automating deployment of required software. As a final workflow output
\, Snakemake generates interactive visual reports that encapsulate results
and data provenance\, and can easily be shared with collaborators.\nWith
over two million downloads on Bioconda\, and averaging >14 new citations p
er week in 2025\, Snakemake has established itself as a gold standard for
reproducible data science\, underpinning numerous high-impact publications
across different scientific disciplines.\nWorkshop and Hackathon goals\nT
he workshop and hackathon will focus on improvements in several key areas\
 , including:\n\ndocumentation (for all the following points)\ncore code\np
lugins (extending core functionality)\nwrappers (standardized copy-pastabl
e rules / analysis steps)\nworkflow creation and maintenance (documentatio
 n\, tooling)\n\nParticipants will do so\, by:\n\nidentifying gaps and weak
nesses in documentation\nprioritizing existing bug reports and feature req
uests\nconceptualizing new features\ncreating pull requests for existing o
r newly created issues\n\nThe hackathon will be complemented by short intr
oductory lectures for the different relevant parts of the codebase.\nParti
cipation\nParticipants should be able to program with Python and ideally (
but not necessarily) already have some experience with contributing to the
Snakemake ecosystem. We do not care about scientific or industrial backgr
ound.\nThe workspace is large enough for 40 participants. In case the numb
er of applicants exceeds our capacity\, we will rank registered people by
their experience and motivation as outlined in the registration form.\nVen
