Abstract	Lecture 2: QCD and hadron physics: COMPASS, NA61, DIRAC The lecture will discuss the research done at the COMPASS, SHINE and DIRAC experiments at the SPS and PS. COMPASS studies nucleon structure and hadron spectroscopy, SHINE searches for the critical point and onset of deconfinement in heavy ion collisions while DIRAC studies the pi-pi scattering length in pionic atoms.
