1. Welcome to Christine Kourkoumelis.
She is replacing Michael Barnett as ATLAS Outreach Co-Coordinator and her term lasts until March 2014. Steve remains as Co-Coordinator until March 2013. Claudia remains as Outreach Officer.
2. Update on local communication and education projects
Dans la Peau d’un Chercheur. 31 schools are involved. 350 kids will participate. They printed a book to promote and a book for teachers. Sandrine Marsollier visited the LAPP institute that is very interested. (They want to participate next year).
Masterclasses: 4 different classes are involved. 1 CMS, 2 ATLAS, 1 ALICE. Corinne is still looking for a physicist in ATLAS.
Passport Big Bang: The content with the platform is ok but they don’t have enough funding. The project will be finished this year or next year.
The Communauté de communes and le Conseil Geénéral de l’Ain are establishing an agreement to have more systematic visits, to buy books …
3. Moriond
The press office had a lot of visits.
The Higgs will be in Moriond but we don’t know the stories to tell.
James introduces Kate Khale who joined our group. She will work on social medias so please inform her about publications on social medias.
4. CMS google hangout
The presentation is available online.
There was a great interest for the procedure.
The DG will welcome the Google’s directorate on March, 2 so we need to brief him before.
5. Legal service release forms / Range Rover context and follow up
Most of the release forms are not acceptable for CERN that’s why the legal service would like to introduce new ones. It caused many reactions about who will send the forms, who will store it, who will answer the questions… so the conversation will continue and we need to decide where the forms go.
Range Rover: If we don’t do any action, everybody will have the impression that copyright is not useful.
Something needs to be done by the legal service.
6. Round the table, news from the experiments and the CCC
PH-EDU – Globe the guide system has changed. They have 3 shifts now. The traveling exhibition is traveling to Turkey, Ankara, Warsaw, Poland, Ireland. We will have an interactive screen in AMS entrance room. There will be a CERN stand at the Frankfurt book fair to promote the published books.
PRESS OFFICE – They thanks everybody for their help with press visits (need a discussion before the long shutdown) 1 security procedure for all the experiments would be great (levels are not identical)
CCC – They solved the vacuum problems. Collisions will start end of march.
CMS – The photographer Tray Ratcliff will come next year, so they would like to send an invitation from CERN. They tried mini masterclasses (in 3 hours) and it worked perfectly. The results were closed to CMS publications.
ATLAS – They hosted a large number of visitors (public, media, VIP) in the cavern the past two months and are in the process of compiling the list of visitors. They are progressing on the Path Project, which will be located between the Globe and the current Visitor Centre, having recently consulted with museum experts from London and Lausanne. They have recently hosted several Virtual Visits, including visits from Chennai, India and a school in Michigan USA and have improved the quality and robustness of their system, which features physicists in the ATLAS Control Room talking to the public.
USLHC – Amy will leave soon and Kathryn will also leave end of May.
ALICE – They had a lot of visits. They will soon have an ALICE paper model to test.
Dan Noyes: www.dev1.web.cern.ch collisions are shown on the first page so Dan is asking for anything he could expose. You can still send your comments about this page to Dan.
Lisa Mc Carty: Drupal site will be tagged up, users to test it.
