Description
Monojet final states made up of a single high-pt jet accompanied by no other observable object to balance its momentum are an important BSM search channel at the LHC. Dominant SM background processes for monojets are Z/W+jet production, where the Z decays invisibly to neutrinos or the W decays to a a lepton and a neutrino and the lepton is not reconstructed. We will discuss the CMS and ATLAS monojet analyses and in particular point out differences in the selection cuts or background estimation procedures. We will then move on to interpretations of the monojet measurements, focussing in particular on WIMP interpretations in an effective field theory approach.
