ALARA review for the replacement of the PSB dump (3 August 2012)
Dedicated meeting to the support of the BTY-QFO108 magnet and its replacement for a new structure

INTRODUCTION:
The aim of the meeting was to inform all participants about the structure EN-STI-TCD is planning to design and install in the PSB dump area, before starting any work.
The new structure is a replacement for the yellow column supporting the BTY-QFO 108 magnet, which stands in front of the dump cavity and is currently blocking its access.
The proposal consists of a three-foot metallic structure and its functions are:

NEW STRUCTURE: SUPPORT FOR THE BTY-QFO 108 MAGNET AND A CRANE
The BTY-QFO 108 magnet is over 600 kg (D. Bodart).
The use of the manual crane must not alter the position of the BTY-QFO 108 magnet (J. Cole). → Structural deformation calculations with a moving load to be performed and taken into account for the design of the structure (GS-SE-CEP and EN-MME).
The crane, as all lifting equipment, needs to be certified. The companies who produce them already provide the certificate. → C. Bertone to provide a list of companies.
For advice on the design of the new structure, EN-STI-TCD should contact EN-HE-HH (C. Bertone), Civil Engineering GS-SE (Daniel Parchet) and the Design Office (A. Dallocchio).
A. Dallocchio suggested that it may be easier and more reliable to bring a crane to the area, rather than installing one on the new structure, which would only be used two or three times.
STORING RADIOACTIVE WASTE:
ISR has no specific restrictions on weight or volume for storage of radioactive waste (R. Froeschl). DGS-RP-RW is building a new storage area in the ISR and they might be able to provide a special place for these works → Estimate the radioactive waste generated during the replacement tasks of the PSB dump and inform DGS-RP-RW (EN-STI).
