Apache JMeter - Test Automation Tool
Software testing is a vital part of the software development process and this phase takes increasingly more importance as the target system gets more complex and large. The EDMS/MTF system currently stores data on more than 800,000 documents and 1,000,000 pieces of equipment. It allows a wide range of functionality from creation and distribution of documents to registration and maintenance of equipment. Testing a system with such dimensions makes manual testing virtually impossible and therefore demands the use of test automation tools. The chosen test tool for EDMS/MTF system testing was Apache JMeter, a pure Java desktop application designed to load test functional behavior and measure performance. It was originally designed for testing Web Applications but has since expanded to other test functions. During this presentation, the JMeter test tool will be presented along with complementary tools such as BadBoy, used for test scenario creation. JMeter's main functionalities will be discussed with particular focus on Web Application testing applied to EDMS/MTF testing. A tutorial on test scenario creation will be given to better show the tool's capabilities and its usefulness in software testing in various domains.
