Description
We discuss the recent results from ATLAS and CMS regarding searches for a Higgs boson decaying into a pair of tau leptons. This uses data delivered by the LHC in 2011 and 2012. Final stats of all tau decay combinations are examined. Both ATLAS and CMS observe an excess incompatible with background expectations with observed (expected) deviation from the background-only hypothesis corresponding to a significance of 4.1 (3.2) standard deviations for ATLAS and 3.4 (3.6) for CMS. The best-fit signal strengths relative to the σ∗BR(H→ττ) for the production and decay of a standard model Higgs boson of mass mH=125 GeV are μ = 0.87 ± 0.29 and μ=1.4+0.5−0.4 for CMS and ATLAS respectively, consistent with Standard Model expectations for a Higgs boson with mH=125 GeV.
