Software Defined Networking is the technology that has probably caused the highest disruption in the networking industry in the past decades. It promises to revolutionize the way networks are operated by providing a common abstraction layer to enhance flexibility and automation of deployments. The latest openlab R&D collaboration with HP (the ViSION project) focused on performing traffic orchestration using SDN technology.

We will describe the SDN concept, evolution and technology details, as well as the current commercial and open-source solutions.
Furthermore we'll provide an overview of the concepts and activities of the ViSION project.
