With the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN in 2012, the so-called "Standard Model" is complete! In this seminar different aspects of particle physics will be discussed taking the Standard Model as starting point:
- What is the standard model?
- Matter and forces in nature
- How does the Higgs boson fits into it and why is it important?
- A brief review of the how physics developed in in the 19th and 20th century (Relativity, Quantum Mechanics)
- The principles behind the accelerators and experiments using LHC as and example
- Why do experiments and accelerators are so big?
- How does particle physics relates to the big bang, the birth of the universe
- Do we have all the answers now or are there still questions to be answered...
