Description

Federated identity management (FIM) is an arrangement made among multiple organisations that lets subscribers use the same identification data, e.g. account names & credentials, to obtain access to the secured resources and computing services of all other organisations in the group. Specifically in the various research communities there is an increased interest in a common approach as there is obviously a large potential for synergies. Several research communities, infrastructures and as well as federations have worked together in this area. This presentation will give an overview of this ongoing effort, including a common vision for FIM, a set of requirements and a number of recommendations for ensuring secure and interoperable operations across multiple administrative domains. In particular, the current SCI / Sir-T-Fi work will be presented, providing details on a common trust framework proposing minimal requirements for participants, as well as a common security incident response policy for federations.
