The reach in beta* of the LHC depends on a number of different parameters, including both the collimation hierarchy and the available aperture, but also on impedance and the needed crossing angle. Different options are investigated, and a proposal for the startup configuration is made. The focus is more on feasibility than on performance, and the proposal is based on what is believed can be achieved based on the Run 1 experience. Furthermore, different options on how to push the beta* down later in the run are discussed, as well as the resulting performance reach.
