Geant4 is a software toolkit for the simulation of the passage of particles through matterial objects. It is used by high-energy physicists to model and design particle detectors such as the ATLAS detector for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Geant4 is also of use in the areas of nuclear physics, accelerator and space physics, medicine, and bio-physics.
A week long introductory tutorial on the use of Geant 4 will be given at the University of Michigan the week of 26 February to 2 March 2001. The lectures will be delivered by Andrea Dell'Acqua of CERN, who is a world-class expert on this software package. The tutorial will be a mixture of brief lectures and hands-on laboratory exercises. By the end of the week you will be able to make practical use of Geant4.
Familiarity with C++ is assumed. (Those who feel weak in this area but are still interested in learning Geant4 should contact us -- ther eare some things we might be able to do to prepare you for the course.)
