Workshop focussing on service needs for initial data taking: commissioning, calibration and alignment, early physics.
Target audience: all active sites plus experiments
We start with a detailed update on the schedule and operation of the accelerator for 2007/2008, followed by similar sessions from each experiment.
The main thrust of this workshop will be to understand the status of the WLCG Services with respect to the 2007 / 2008 requirements, in particular the 'residual services' discussed at the January 2007 workshop.
- SRM 2.2
- Full FTS services
- Distributed Database Services
- gLite 3.x / SL(C)4 / 64bit

We also review the status / plans of the Dress Rehearsals and initial running.
BOF sessions are foreseen in the following areas:
- Monitoring
- Data Management
- Databases
- Operations, including experiment / site / Grid operations
The capacities of the rooms are as follows:
- Theatre - 400 seats

- To understand the state of {site, experiment, service} readiness for data taking {cosmics, pp collisions} according to the current LHC schedule;
- To identify the key outstanding issues and associated milestones;
- To understand experiment activities {'dress rehearsals', cosmics runs in November/December 2007, March 2008, pp from Spring/Summer on}.

- Tested readiness of magnetic tape infrastructure.
- Tested readiness of site data management layer above the hardware including for full rate multi-VO operation.
- Formal planning for 24 by 7 operations ready (including for staffing) and documented to the experiments and other sites.
- Experiment local site support in place with clearly defined roles.
- Other issues you would like to add/clarify/replace.

Experiment- / Site- / Region- Operations BOF 2h OakBay
OakBay
Victoria, BC, Canada
co-located with CHEP 2007Some suggestions raised at the WLCG Management Board are listed below:- I.Fisk asked for the correlation between “availability as seen via SAM” vs. the “real jobs success rates of the Experiments (via Crab, Ganga, etc)”.
- H.Marten suggested that at the Operation Workshop at CHEP the sites should have the top 5 issues for each service.
- I.Fisk also suggested a session for feedback from the sites to the developers, in order to improve the services and the software developed.
- R.Tafirout suggested that sites should share solutions; sometimes the information is known by others but not easily accessible.
Other topics:
- Results of review of CERN service deployment wrt resilience to glitches / common service interventions
- What do we need to operate the WLCG service for LHC data taking?
- Cross site problem determination
- Top middleware and operations issues
- Implications of migration to LSF 7

co-located with CHEP 2007The aim of the User Support BOF is to better understand what the VO expect from the WLCG/EGEE support infrastructure and how they interact with it, in order to improve the processes and workflows and to make the EGEE user support more helpful for the VO-users. This is a follow-up and continuation of the User Support Workshop held in Karlsruhe in March 2007. http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=11905 The latest developments in the EGEE/WLCG user support will be presented. Updates from the VOs about their support infrastructure are of course welcome.Speaker: Torsten Antoni (FZK) -
