Description
The origin of the cosmic matter-antimatter asymmetry remains a mystery, but the LHC and other colliders can serve as direct probes of the new states responsible for baryogenesis if they lie around the electroweak scale. The out-of-equilibrium condition for baryogenesis and the presence of baryon- or lepton-number-violating interactions predicts spectacular collider signatures, but production rates are often small. As examples, I discuss a couple of possibilities for baryogenesis involving new weak-scale states, giving rise to LHC signatures including displaced vertices, displaced lepton jets, tri- and same-sign leptons, and show how dedicated searches improve the prospects for discovery.
