LHC Computing Grid Project

Project Execution Board

Notes of the meeting of Monday 10 December

CERN,   14-4-030

Present: Philippe Charpentier, Chris Eck, Fabrizio Gagliardi, Matthias Kasemann, Miguel Marquina, Alberto Masoni, Gilbert Poulard, Les Robertson, Lucas Taylor, Wolfgang von Rueden, Torre Wenaus

Discussion with Matthias Kasemann to discuss the inter-relationship of the PEB and the SC2

Status reports to be made at the SC2 by the PEB –

  • Each month one of the area managers will give a short (30 minute) presentation with an overview of the status, plans and issues of their area. This means that each area will be covered three times per year.
  • Status report by the project leader covering the status of the high-level milestones, resources, problem areas, successes, etc. A written report will be provided each month, complemented by a short presentation/question session.
  • Detailed status report, with resource loaded planning information.
  • External review of the project – not clear of the scope, but it will be discussed with the LHCC chairman.
  •

    Kick-off Workshop – 4-8 February 2002 {since the meeting a new date of 11-15 March is being proposed}

    Moving forward in the PEB

    While waiting for the Workshop and the SC2 to define the high level requirements it was agreed that the PEB can begin to progress with planning in some areas, preparing proposals for the SC2.

    The Project will use the acronym LCG

    There was a discussion on the resources available to the project. At the time of the Council session in September substantially more human resources appeared to have been pledged than were requested in the project definition paper (CERN/2394/rev). However, as formal contacts are made with the representatives of the countries concerned, it appears that in some cases the resources have been over-stated. By the end of January we should be able to make a good estimate of the real human resources that will be available. The pledges for materials resources made so far cover only about 40% of the amount required over the three years of the project.

    Next meeting

    Next meeting is scheduled for 12 December at 15:00 in 31-S-012.

    The main agenda item is to have the four experiments stating their view of the high-level goals/milestones and their corresponding priorities. Wolfgang von Rόden will also present the IT groups working in the area of physics support.
